Alejandro F. Aguilar (Camaguey, Cuba, 1958) has spent the last 25 years traveling the world from his home cities of Budapest (Hungary), Havana(Cuba) and Philadelphia (USA). In the latest stage of his never-ending trip, he splits his time writing, teaching Spanish Language and Literature at Temple University, (from which he holds a Master in Arts degree), and trying to understand the human being under the world’s present circumstances. Alejandro has published a book of poetry entitled Tesituras (Espada Rota, Venezuela, 1994), two collections of short stories, Paisaje de Arcilla (Letras Cubanas, 1997) and Figuras tendidas (Sanlope, 2000); one novel in Puerto Rico, La desobediencia (Plaza Mayor, 2003) Casa de Cambio (Cursack Books, 2005) and his most recent Fijar la mirada (Casa de Teatro, Dominican Rep. 2009). Aguilar’s writings have appeared in English in journals such as Metamorphoses and Beacons. His stories are included in the anthologies New Short Fiction from Cuba (Northwestern University Press, Sept. 2007), New Cuban Fiction (Review of Contemporary Fiction, Dalkey Archive Press, Fall, 2006) and Cuba on the Edge (CCCP, United Kingdom, Dec. 2006). Ventana Abierta from Chile just published in Jan. 2008, a bilingual edition of Landscape of Clay. Aguilar teaches Narrative Techniques and Creative Writing workshops and has given bilingual readings and/or lectures at Harvard, Barnard College, Anchorage Alaska University, Alfred College, the University of Connecticut, Emory, Villanova and Temple University. He has also given lectures on issues of international affairs at the World Affairs Councils.
Alejandro F. Aguilar (Camaguey, Cuba, 1958) escritor premiado en varias ocasiones, ha pasado los ultimos veinte anos de su vida viajando por el mundo desde sus ciudades de residencia en distintos momentos: Budapest, La Habana y Filadelfia. En esta ultima etapa de su incesante viaje, divide su tiempo entre la escritura, la ensenanza del Espanol y la Literatura Hispanoamericana en la Universidad Temple de Filadelfia (donde obtuvo su grado de Master en Artes); y tratar de comprender al ser humano bajo las presentes circunstancias mundiales. Hasta hoy ha publicado una plaquette de poesia titulada Tesituras (La Espada Rota, Venezuela, 1994), dos libros de cuentos: Paisaje de arcilla (Letras Cubanas 1997, Ventana Abierta 2008, esta ultima en edicion bilingue) y Figuras Tendidas (Sanlope, 2000); asi como las novelas La desobediencia (Plaza Mayor, Puerto Rico, 2003), Casa de Cambio (Cursack Books, New Hampshire, 2005) y Fijar la mirada, Casa de Teatro, Rep. Dominicana 2009. Textos de Aguilar han aparecido en publicaciones periodicas en ingles como Matamorphoses y Beacons. Tambien ha impartido conferencia sobre asuntos internacionales en el World Affaires Council.
